CLASSIKY Kata Kata Small Dish M Bear
The dyed cloth produced by the pattern dyeing unit "kata kata" by Mr. and Mrs. Matsunaga and Mr. Tomoe Takai is full of unique world view in its design style while preserving traditional techniques.
As you said, you are trying to create a conversation that allows you to imagine a story when you unfold the cloth, and you can feel the story in each pattern.
In the case of making things with a couple unit, I think that it is often the case that each person is in charge of the field of specialty, but in the case of Mr. Katakata, it is different, and both sides design by themselves, The dyeing work is a form in which two people cooperate with each other in pairs. I think that Mr. Katakata's great appeal is that he maintains a sense of unity in one unit with an exquisite balance while giving a wide range of variations because of the design of the two.
By the way, this time, I asked Mr. Katakata to design a plate for "seal stamper".
"Stamping hand" is a painting by printing such as "pattern printing (stencil technique)" and "copper plate transfer", which enables mass production by handicraft without having a professional painting craftsman. It is a technology that has developed rapidly since the times.
As a result, painted porcelain containers have been distributed all over Japan, and the eating habits of the common people have undergone a major transformation.
Even when it comes to painting by printing, this method at that time was prone to many drawbacks such as blurring, bleeding, color loss, and color unevenness in the pattern, and in recent years it has become a technique that can only be performed in a limited number of cases. I have.
However, some people who like containers can say that their shortcomings are their taste, and they find it attractive. Of course, the Kurashiki design is similar to those people, but even if it is not possible to unify the finish to a uniform finish. After all, I wanted to make a container with this technique.
The irregular and rustic taste was the same as it was at that time, but the design was more modern, and the ideal was a plate with a stamp that could not be decided as a pattern of any country.
Katazome, which is one of the stamping methods, is a kind of stencil dyeing, so I thought that Katakata could make a nice plate.
The result is a stamp plate with a copper plate transfer method. As you can imagine, many fun and story-filled dishes were born. I think it will play an active role every day as a container that draws out conversations every time you surround the table.
